13 doctors in Bengaluru have tested positive for COVID-19, even after getting vaccines

Covid positive tests have been found in 13 medical students at the Bengaluru Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI). Surprisingly, some of the affected students had received the second dose of the vaccine. The students who have been affected have been housed in separate hostel rooms.

Dr. Smitha Segu, BMCRI’s Covid-19 nodal officer, reported that none of the 13 MBBS students had any previous travel experience.
“A few students began to exhibit symptoms, and tests were conducted. The BMCRI hostel was then checked, and 13 people were found to be positive. Some of them have also been inoculated, but the seriousness of their infection is less,” she said.

Two students from Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Study tested positive after receiving their second dose of vaccination.
“Two nurses tested positive after vaccination about 14 days ago, but they showed no signs of infection,” said Dr. C N Manjunath, the hospital’s director. Manipal Hospital has confirmed cases of people contracting Covid after being vaccinated. “After the first dose of vaccine, we’ve had some patients with clinical effects. What we’ve discovered is that after the first dose of vaccine, people relax their guard and become infected,” said Dr. Anoop Amarnath, Head, Scientific Board and Chairman-Geriatric Medicine, Manipal Hospital.

On Sunday, Karnataka registered 4,553 new Covid-19 cases from all over the state. There were 2,787 new cases registered in Bengaluru Urban alone, bringing the state’s daily test positivity rate to 3.79 percent. Up to 15 more people died as a result of the infection.

Meanwhile, over the weekend, the government revised two big restrictions declared on Friday. Although one required cinemas to operate at full capacity until midnight on April 7, another allowed gyms to operate at half capacity.
