Bengaluru: As there is a sharp increase in the Covid-19 case, the Karnataka government has decided to provide free vaccination for all those between 18 and 44 years of age. It also permitted home delivery of liquor for the first time in the state’s history.
After the cabinet meeting held on Monday, chief minister BS Yediyurappa declared that the state will vaccinate people above the age of 18 years and below 45 years free of cost at government hospitals across the state. The Union Government will bear the cost of vaccination of those above the age of 45 years.
He said, “With both governments taking up vaccination drives, there will be free vaccination across the state in government hospitals.”
He added that food and beverages takeaway is permitted this time. Home delivery of liquor will also be permitted.
He also announced that the cabinet has decided to write to the state election commission to postpone all upcoming polls for the next three months at least.
The chief minister said, “Essential items like milk and groceries will be available for four hours in the day from 6 am to 10 am during the lockdown period.”
On Sunday, Bengaluru reported the highest single-day spike with more than 20,000 new cases which has made it the second city (after Delhi) with the maximum number of cases.
The CM also stated that both inter and intrastate public transportation will not function except goods transportation during the lockdown period.
He indicated that the window period for public transport will remain open till Tuesday 9 pm for those who want to leave their hometowns. He said, “The two-week lockdown will commence from Tuesday 9 pm onwards and end on May 10.”
He added, “Covid virus is predominantly spreading in Bengaluru and its surrounding areas and it has surpassed even Mumbai, hence, we are forced to implement such harsh measures.”
