Four districts in Karnataka relieved as the government eases curbs

Bengaluru: On Tuesday, the Karnataka government gave further relaxations to four districts. It has permitted all shops except those that are air-conditioned, to operate from 6 am to 1 pm. But, air-conditioned shopping malls and complexes will remain shut.

In an order, revenue department principal secretary N Manjunath Prasad said that the lockdown restrictions have been eased in Dakshina Kannada, Hassan, Davanagere and Chamarajanagara districts with immediate effects and till 5 am of July 5.

The order stated, “In exercise of powers conferred under Section 24 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, the chairman, State Executive Committee, after assessing current Covid-19 situation in certain districts, hereby permits the functioning of all shops other than air-conditioned shops, air-conditioned shopping complexes and malls, from 6 am to 1 pm.”

The government had set the restriction from April 27 due to the sudden surge in the number of Covid cases. The restrictions were eased in a graded manner as the cases started to decline.
