Karnataka: Staff are on strike, and public transportation could be disrupted from Wednesday

Employees of KSRTC and BMTC are organizing an indefinite strike, which will likely affect public transportation systems throughout the state starting Wednesday.

The department agreed to grant temporary licenses to private operators, including private contract carriages and taxicabs/minibusses, to avoid inconveniencing passengers. However, because of the Covid restrictions, the government has suspended all forms of protests for 15 days, and no demonstrations will be permitted at Freedom Park or anywhere in the region.

The Karnataka State Road Transport Employees’ League, led by farmer leader Kodihalli Chandrashekar, has claimed that the sixth pay commission’s wages are their top priority.

All employees of the four-state road transport corporations — KSRTC, BMTC, NWKRTC, and NEKRTC — will participate in the strike, After the government vowed to address issues in three months, we called off our four-day agitation in December. However, it is just making false promises and not following through with our real demands. Most family members of workers who died as a result of Covid-19 have yet to receive the government’s promised compensation. said League president R Chandrashekhar.

We will hold a meeting with transport department officials on Tuesday evening, All operators have been promised a one-month permit, but we have made some requests, including the safety of our vehicles, said S Nataraj Sharma chairman of the Karnataka State Travel Operators’ Association.

Employees went on a four-day strike in December of last year, crippling transportation services throughout the state. Activists from a number of groups, including Bengaluru Bus Prayanikara Vedike, have written an open letter to the chief minister and the minister of transport about the strike.
