Exams for grades 1 to 9 will be determined in two days: Karnataka govt

S Suresh Kumar, the state’s minister of primary and secondary education, said on Monday that a decision on exams for grades 1 through 9 would be taken in the next two days.

On Monday morning, the minister spoke to the media after the department held a meeting with all stakeholders. A total of 44 people attended the conference, including members from unaided colleges, parent associations, and educationists, in addition to education department officials.

“Everyone was given the opportunity to share their perspective. The unaided schools have stated that they plan to administer the summative tests. All of this will be taken into account before we make a decision,” Suresh Kumar said.

Karnataka has yet to make a decision on whether or not to promote students without tests, despite the fact that several other states have done so.

In a letter to the department, the Karnataka Association of Primary and Secondary Schools-KAMS stated that not conducting exams is unfair to children who have been attending classes regularly.

On Sunday, Karnataka registered 4,553 new Covid-19 cases from all over the state. There were 2,787 new cases registered in Bengaluru Urban alone, bringing the state’s daily test positivity rate to 3.79 percent. Up to 15 more people died as a result of the infection.

Meanwhile, over the weekend, the government revised two big restrictions declared on Friday. Although one required cinemas to operate at full capacity until midnight on April 7, another allowed gyms to operate at half capacity.
