Covid 19 Updates

Dasarahalli and Yelahanka become the focal point of Covid-19 wave

Bengaluru: With a spike in cases, Dasarahalli and Yelahanka zones have now become the focal point of the second wave of Covid-19. Although, modest figures were registered last year, this time the zones have the highest number of Covid clusters. The city has witnessed the growth of 53 clusters since February 13 when an outbreak was recorded among out-of-state medical students in RT Nagar. 16 clusters were recorded in the Yelahanka zone while 11 were registered in the Dasahalli zone.

The 122 cases in clusters were developed because of people with travel history. A Yelahanka zonal official blames those who recently returned from Kerala and Maharashtra. Dasarahalli, being a relatively small zone had a captivating existence and had registered lesser cases last year. However, it has a different reality now.

Most of the clusters have been found in schools and one of the factories has been turned into a containment zone. Dr. PC Jaffer, IAS, the special officer for Dasarahalli zone stated, “Despite a large number of clusters, the number of cases in the zone has been modest. We are getting about 40 to 50 cases a day, compared to the triple digits in other zones”.

The industrial areas which are being hit by the cases are now a matter of concern. Srinivas Asranna, the immediate past President of the Peenya Industrial Association, said that there is a disruption in inspections and surveillance in the ward due to the increasing cases. The free travelling workers who visit the highly congested areas on holidays are the reason for the spread of the disease, Asranna added.
