Covid 19 Updates

“Covid Cases Rising, But No Need For Curfew”; BBMP chief Manjunath Prasad

COVID-19 cases have been on the rise in Karnataka, with the state capital Bengaluru reporting the most cases.

“Cases have been steadily rising in Bengaluru since the beginning of March,” BBMP Commissioner Manjunath Prasad said. He further added It used to be around 600 cases per day on average in December, 300 cases in January, and 243 cases on average in February, now it’s almost 500 cases per day in March.

According to BBMP commissioner Mr. Manjunath Prasad, “The key reasons for this are that most of the cases have travel history, which we discovered when we traced the contact’s history. Often, individuals have attended big events such as weddings, worship services, or apartment parties. The majority of the cases (nearly 70%) originate from high-rise buildings.”

At 0.63 percent, the case fatality rate is extremely low. In Bengaluru, the positivity rate is about 1.5 percent. Three COVID-19 treatment centers are being built in the city for people who test positive but are asymptomatic or only slightly ill. However, demand is poor, with those who can afford it choosing to separate themselves at home.

“Karnataka is aiming for 3 lakh tests a day, with Bengaluru having the highest number of tests. We used to get about 20,000 tests a day in Bengaluru at the beginning of March. The number has now risen to nearly 50,000 tests every day. As a result, the number of cases discovered has increased “Mr. Prasad explained.

The mandatory wearing of masks has turned out to be an unlikely source of revenue for the city corporation, which has received fines totaling ten crore rupees.
