Covid-19 Karnataka; Reporting higher than 2% daily positivity rates in 5 districts

Five districts in Karnataka are reporting higher than 2 percent daily positivity rates in the past seven days-Udupi tops the list with 3.5 percent, Bidar 3.1 percent, Dakshina Kannada, and Kalaburagi 2.5 percent each, and Bengaluru 2.3 percent.

While apartments and educational institutions have turned out to be clustered in Bengaluru, students with travel history from other districts, especially Kerala, are the index cases in clusters in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi.

Dr. CN Manjunath said the government must control crowding that occurs at festivals, mass prayers, film releases, and other events. They must be temporarily prohibited. We’re seeing a second wave because people have become complacent in the belief that Covid has vanished.

“The higher positivity rate in some districts suggests research has increased there, The number of cases observed has remained low in districts where the monitoring process is not uniform. The majority of people are asymptomatic.” says epidemiologist Dr. Giridhara R Babu.

According to the World Health Organization, if the positivity rate is less than 1%, the infection rate is stable and virus spread is not rapid.

All places of worship in districts with high positivity rates should be closed, because Covid-appropriate behavior cannot be controlled there, said the technical advisory committee,

In addition, the committee recommended that children’s play areas, gyms, and swimming pools in the affected districts must be closed. The government agreed to some of the committee’s recommendations and set a cap of 200 guests for indoor weddings and 500 for outdoor weddings.

The number of people allowed to attend political and religious activities has been limited to 500. Fines will vary between Rs 5,000 and Rs 10,000 for violators. Funerals are limited to 100 people in open areas and 50 in closed areas. A circular issued on Wednesday stated that birthday parties should not have more than 100 people in open areas and 50 in closed areas.

Mask law violators in the BBMP and municipal limits will be fined Rs 250, while those in other areas will be fined Rs 100.

The committee had reported that the proposed steps would be enforced before April 10th, and a review would be undertaken after that.
