Covid-19 cases go beyond the 10-lakh mark in Karnataka

BENGALURU: Karnataka’s additive Covid-19 cases crossed the 10-lakh mark, with the 4,234 new cases. The caseload has raised to 10,01,238 since the pandemic hit last year.

Maharashtra had gone past the 10-lakh mark in September t last year, whereas Kerala went beyond the mark on February 14. Karnataka remains the third one to cross the mark. Till now, Maharashtra has registered 28.1 lakh Covid cases and Kerala 1.2 lakh.

After the state, Andhra Pradesh has the best range of cases at 9 lakh, followed by Tamil Nadu (8.8 lakh), and Delhi (6.6 lakh).

It may be noted that Karnataka had crossed the 5-lakh mark on September 18. However, containment measures that the government placed have helped to prevent the unfold of the virus. The doubling time from 5 lakh to 10 lakh was close to seven months. Despite this, the state is currently facing a spike in cases once more.

The state witnessed a daily positivism rate of 3.6% on doing 1.1 lakh tests on Thursday. Bengaluru alone accounted for two,906 new cases on Thursday.

According to the health department authorities, it took the state quite a year to record 10 lakh cases. Karnataka had registered the earliest case on March 8, 2020, when a programmer was tested positive on arrival in Bengaluru from the US.

The 10 lakh cases in the state include 9,57,769 persons who have recovered. The death number is 12,585. The state presently has 30,865 active cases.

A majority of cases in the province are registered from Bengaluru that has witnessed 3.3 lakh Covid cases to the present day. This is inclusive of more than 4.1 lakh people who have recovered.  Karnataka has till date conducted 2.1 crore Covid tests. Out of this, 1.7 crore were RT-PCR tests.
