Covid 19 Updates

Change in class 10,12 exams in Karnataka has not been decided yet

Bengaluru: On Wednesday, the Karnataka government said that it has not taken any decision regarding the cancellation of the state board 10th standard exam.

S Suresh Kumar, Karnataka minister for primary and secondary education said, “There has been no decision on postponement or cancellation of class 10th and II PU exams yet.”

The minister spoke after the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) took the decision to cancel the exams of class 10th and postpone the exams of class 12th.

Minister told that the exams here are only on May 24 and June 21 which is 1 month 10 days and two months later. So, the situation would be reviewed later and a decision will be taken accordingly.

However, the mode of assessment for classes 1-9 is yet to be decided. The minister said that a decision on this will be taken in the coming days.

During the first wave of Corona, Karnataka had successfully conducted one pending exam of II PU and all the SSLC papers.

However, the decision caused disappointment to the Association of Managements and Primary and Secondary Schools of Karnataka.

D Shashi Kumar, Secretary said, “We agree Covid numbers are increasing, but Karnataka had conducted board exams last year when the Covid situation was even grave.”

He said, “There was micromanaging and complete following of SOP and it was successful. Cancelling exams for Grade 10 students will set a bad precedent. In the coming days, there won’t be an assessment of how much they have learnt.”

Kumar also said that in the future it might stigmatize the students when they walk out into the society that they were simply promoted during the pandemic instead of showing their ability. He adds that there should have been an online assessment for students of class 10.
