Bengaluru records the highest number of Covid-19 cases since the pandemic began

Bengaluru: On April 15, Bengaluru reported 10,497 Covid-19 cases which were more than 70% of 14,738 cases reported in Karnataka on the same day. On Thursday, the city has reported 30 deaths which have now taken the total fatalities among the Covid-19 patients to 4,963. This is the first time that the city has witnessed more than 10,000 cases in a single day. Last year, the highest number of cases witnessed was 5,121 on October 8. However, Bengaluru has recorded a constant increase in the number of cases in the past few days.

The positivity rate for the state had gone up from 9.94%  on April 14 to 11.38% on April 15. The positivity rate is the percentage of tests that return positive among individuals. For instance, if 100 people are suspected to have caught the infection and are tested, and only two people test positive, then the test positivity rate is 2%.

Presently, Bengaluru has 71,827 active Covid patients and reported 30 deaths on Thursday, April 15. Most of the hospitals in the city are facing a shortage of beds. Health Minister, K Sudhakar has said that strict action will be taken against the private hospitals that do not reserve 50% beds for Covid patients. Currently, 174 patients in the city are admitted to ICU facilities of several hospitals.

As per the record of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the maximum number of Covid cases in the past few days have been reported from the following eight wards in the city- Bellanduru, Shantala Nagar, Raja Rajeswari Nagar, HSR Layout, Arakere, Horamavu, Doddanekundi and Hemmigepura.
