Bengaluru: A woman does her best to console people amidst the silence at the Indian Christian Cemetery on Hosur road, Shantinagar.
Anne Morris, 43, who is a canine trainer and staffer at the burial ground joined in the middle of February to help with the last rites of the Covid victims. She says, “This is also a service and I’m honoured to do my bit for victims.”
Apart from dealing with all the paperwork, Anne also lends her shoulder to carry bodies along with the workers. She also supervises grave-digging. Covid victims are buried 10 ft under and not 6 ft which is the norm.
Anne has been infected with Covid-19 several times and even list her sense of taste. She says, “We have almost run out of space to bury Covid victims. Cases are increasing and it’s taking a toll on funeral workers here.”
She still continues to work among Covid victims and also consoles families of the departed with a word of comfort at the burial ground.
