Bengaluru: On Wednesday, transport employees called off their strike which has become a major relief to the commuters.
“We have decided to withdraw the strike due to the court order”, said Kodihalli Chandrashekhar, president of the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha, who was leading the strike.
He added that if their demands are not met, they would go on a strike again.
On Tuesday, the transport high court stated that the demands of the transport employees were legitimate, but this was not the right time to go on strike as the country was struggling against the pandemic Covid-19.
Officials informed that full-fledged operations will start from Thursday. On Wednesday till 5 pm, four STUs operated 12,692 buses including KSRTC (4808), BMTC (2808), NEKRTC (2134) and NWKRTC (2942).
The employees began their strike on April 7, to seek revision of salaries on par with the 6th Pay Commission recommendations.
The state government said that they cannot implement the pay revision now due to the financial instability presently and requested the workers to return to work immediately.
