Bengaluru: On Saturday, some parts of the city were seen to be in Unlock mood before the official date June 14 as the roads were filled with people and vehicles.
Morning shoppers were seen in Shivajinagar, Jayanagar, KR Market and Malleswaram. Central Business District (CBD), Chamrajpet, Corporation Circle and Anand Rao Circle saw a comparatively heavier rush. According to the police, most people had genuine reasons like buying groceries, visiting a hospital and getting vaccinated.
Many vehicles also moved from other districts to Bengaluru. A police officer said, “Families that had left the city are returning. As the government has not restricted intrastate and interstate movement of private vehicles, the numbers were more on Saturday.” Authorities are of the view that more vehicles will enter the city on Sunday.
Srikant Krishnan, who was waiting at the Devanahalli toll plaza, said, “Our officers, which had permitted WFH earlier, have directed us to return to Bengaluru. Also, inline classes will begin in a few weeks and we need to get books.” This resident with his family from Mahalakshmi Layout had returned from Andhra Pradesh.
