Only a few weeks into the summer, parts of Karnataka are experiencing water shortage

Summer has only just started, but drinking water shortages are already affecting many parts of Karnataka, which authorities are attempting to mitigate with the aid of private borewells and tankers.

Water levels in major reservoirs and groundwater supplies have begun to fall ahead of peak summer, creating concerns of an imminent water shortage.

Chikkaballapur, Kolar, Tumakuru, and Bengaluru Urban and Rural districts, according to the rural development and panchayat raj (RDPR) department, have drinking water shortages. Tanker water is delivered to approximately 20 villages in these districts, and local authorities are tapping private borewells in approximately 100 villages. Local governments are also exploiting private borewells in about 100 villages.

“The problem has only recently arisen, and the department is taking all necessary steps to address it, including supplying water via tankers, digging new borewells, and hiring private borewells, the situation is not worrying anywhere right now, According to LK Ateeq, principal secretary of the RDPR. He said that the department had already given districts Rs 68 crore to fix water issues.

During the summer, the North Karnataka area is typically the first to announce shortages. There have been no big problems this time. Locals say the region has benefited from good rains in recent years.

On Monday, RDPR Minister KS Eshwarappa reviewed the drinking water situation and instructed officials to resolve issues as quickly as possible. He stated that constituencies that have experienced drought for two or three years in a row will receive Rs 35 lakh and Rs 50 lakh, respectively.
