Karnataka government to seek information on ‘black fungus’ among Covid patients

Bengaluru: On Wednesday, health minister K Sudhakar that the Karnataka government has sought information about ‘black fungus’ being found among Covid patients in the country.

He said, “I had a discussion with the technical advisory committee and the clinicians to submit a detailed report in black fungus in two days. Based on that, we will take a call.”

Sudhakar was answering a query about the cases of black fungus or mucormycosis which is a rare fungal infection. It is increasing among Covid-19 patients in few states including Karnataka.

He said that the government wants to acquire information about the same and its treatment.

About the question on the rising double mutant variant of Covid-19, he said that he has ordered geological studies and its sequencing.

The minister said, “Some have called it Indian variant also. It is behaving more erratically than the British variant. We are monitoring its movement as well. Some other countries are also studying it.”

He also said that the process to recruit 2,480 doctors and specialists in Taluk level has now reached the final level. The process had been in progress from the last four-five months.

He said, “In the next two days, a gazette order will come for their recruitment. Due to this, there will not be any shortage of physicians and doctors in Taluk level. We will appoint doctors at Taluk level in four days.”

Apart from this, the state has 50 oxygenated beds and six ventilators in each Taluk hospital.

Karnataka has witnessed a decrease in Covid-10 cases from the past two days. It has reported 40,000 cases from over 50,000 cases a few days back.

To keep the further spread of Covid-19 at bay, the State government has in post stringent lockdown-like restrictions from May 10 to 24.
