Karnataka government cancels II PUC exams, SSLC to be conducted

Bengaluru: Due to the present Covid-19 situation, the Karnataka government has cancelled the II PUC examination. The students of class 12 will be promoted based on their I PUC exams scores. In the meantime, the government jas decided to go ahead with the SSLC exams.

Various other states have already cancelled these exams. On Wednesday, states like Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh have announced the cancellation of class 12 exams. On Tuesday, the CBSE and CISCE had declared the cancellation. Kerala and Bihar have already conducted the exams, whereas, Goa and Telangana have cancelled class 10 exams and are waiting for a decision on class 12 exams.

Students’ forums such as the All India Democratic Students’ Organisation are against conducting the exams. AIDSO stated, “The state committee has released a Google form with a statement on the issue. Thousands of students across the state are signing it and the majority want cancellation of the exam this year.”

The Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KSPCR) also advised the government to cancel SSLC exams. It said, “After receiving multiple calls, we conducted a random survey. Around 68.5% of students, teachers and SDMC members wanted the exam to be cancelled while 31.5% were against it. It will be discrimination towards our children if CBSE has cancelled it and we don’t.”

The departments have provided the government with different sets of proposals. Nearly 8.7 lakh students have registered for SSLC and 6.8 lakh for II PU exams.
