Family reaches outside CM’s residence for a bed, patient dies on the way to hospital

Bengaluru: On Thursday, Manjula, whose husband, 45, was battling for life in the ambulance, urged the cops to let her meet BS Yediyurappa at his residence. She said, “We’ve visited more than 10 hospitals seeking an ICU bed for my husband. We want to request him to get us a bed in any hospital.”

The police tried to shoo her away as the CM’s residence was not a place to be visited by a Covid patient and family. But she said, “The government need not pay a single rupee for my husband. But please arrange a bed for him.”

This incident started on Thursday morning in front of the entrance of Yediyurappa’s official residence on Kumara Park Road. Even though the CM’s office arranged a bed for Manjula’s husband at MS Ramaiah Hospital, Satish (her husband) died in the ambulance on the way. Satish hot added to the state’s statistics but a family has lost its only breadwinner even after fighting till the last minute. Manjula is the first person to approach the CM’s residence in the second wave.

Satish was an employee of a private company and he was in home isolation after testing Covid positive. His health started to worsen on Wednesday night. His family called an ambulance at 1 am and Manjula, along with her elder brother and two others frantically searched for beds in 10 different hospitals. They went to see the CM when their efforts were in vain.

She said, “We don’t want free treatment. Please arrange a bed. I want my husband to live long. We will spend the money for him.” When there was a commotion, coos and CMO personnel said that a bed had been arranged at MS Ramaiah Hospital. The family left for the hospital at around 9:30 am but Satish breathed his last before reaching there.
