Dirty Koramangala valley will soon turn into modern waterfront

Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa scheduled a 10-month deadline for the project, which aims to convert the Koramangala Valley from a sewage carrier to a modern waterfront over 9.6 kilometers.

The chief minister said the state government would approve all appropriate funds and civic bodies would not have to worry about finances as he laid the foundation stone for the Rs 179-crore project in Shanthinagar.

Yediyurappa also promised that the Koramangala valley will help Bengaluru in gaining international recognition.

The walkway next to the valley, according to BBMP administrator Gaurav Gupta, will be built along the lines of Church Street. The work will start in the next 10 days, and the civic body is well prepared, according to BBMP Commissioner N Manjunatha Prasad, The scheme, which is also seen as a solution to artificial floods, has been awarded to Star Infratech, a city-based construction company.

The Koramangala Valley, one of Bengaluru’s largest natural valleys, flows into Bellandur Lake. The valley, however, has been contaminated by the discharge of waste, untreated industrial domestic effluents, and garbage dumping. Unregulated construction activities have also resulted in the channelization of the drain, reducing the SWD’s total capability.

Pollution, air quality, water shortage, and flood mitigation are all key issues that the K-100 project proposes to address. This project also aims to develop the city’s ecological and green infrastructure by using natural materials and bio-remediation techniques to improve water quality.
