Bengaluru: Cybercriminals are now luring the public with fake lucky draw letters. A 37-year-old woman approached the crime police of Southeast CEN and filed a complaint against four criminals for stealing more than Rs 5 lakh from her.
Neetha (name changed), a resident of Electronic City, informed police that she had received a postal letter on 4 February. The miscreants told her that she had won Rs 1 lakh in cash and scratch cards in a lucky draw. She was astonished to know that she had won the cash and found eight scratch cards. So, she called on the mobile number which was mentioned in the letter so that she could acquire the prize money.
The miscreants asked her to pay processing fee, GST and other charges. This, she transferred Rs 5,04,972 in multiple transactions to the account given by that person.
The crime police of Southeast CEN registered a case of cheating and cybercrime against Amith Kumar, Luftar Ali Gazi, Ganga Paswan and Janaki Devi Jha.
