Bengaluru: The cab driver’s strike has been called off

Cab drivers called off their strike on Thursday, giving relief to passengers flying to and from Kempegowda International Airport (KIA).

After discussions with representatives from Bengaluru International Airport Ltd (BIAL), Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC), and the police, the decision was made.

We called off the strike at 3 pm on Thursday, Our problems will be resolved by Monday, according to our assurances. said Hamid Akbar Ali, president of the Airport Taxi Owners Association, who attended the meeting. Our problems will be resolved by Monday, according to our assurances. Their key demand, is for one airport, one fare. If their demands are not met, they will be forced to go on an indefinite strike, he said.

We are also requesting that the commission paid by BIAL be reduced before business improves, said Tanveer Pasha, a cab union leader. It costs between Rs 118 and Rs 160 per journey. Drivers have little access to safe drinking water or toilets. We also want cabbies to provide shelters at the airport.

If their demands are not met, cabbies, including those who drive airport taxis, app-based taxis, and tourist vehicles, will go on strike across the state, he said.

Those traveling to and from KIA were facing problems after cab drivers at the airport went on strike late Tuesday night after one of their colleagues, Pratap, 34, set himself on fire inside his taxi. He was rushed to Victoria Hospital but died as a result of his burns. He used to work for the KSTDC’s airport taxi service.
