Lalbagh is one of India’s oldest botanical gardens and is also one of South India’s main tourist attractions. The Lalbagh Botanical Garden is located in South Bengaluru and is not only one of India’s largest botanical gardens, but also the first of its kind, with planned paths, glasshouse, and ornamental flowers growing all over the land.
The garden itself is spread over an area of 240 acres and the renowned ruler Hyder Ali commissioned its creation. Finally, it was completed by his son, Tipu Sultan, who designed the gardens with the beautiful gardens of Sira in Karnataka’s Tumkur District in mind.
Lalbagh is home to exotic flowers imported from countries such as France, Persia, Arabia, Afghanistan, etc, by the Sultan. Therefore, flowers that had never been seen in India before were first seen in this historical garden. Trees that were brought from all over the world by Tipu Sultan can still be found growing here.
Visitors can also catch sight of some uncommon birds other than the exotic trees, such as the Myna, pond heron, purple moorhen, parakeets, Brahminy kites, common egret, and much more. It has another striking attraction, apart from the spectacular flora and fauna of the Lalbagh Botanical Garden, which is the Lalbagh Rock. This rock said to be over 3000 years old, is one of the world’s oldest rocks and can be found in the middle of the garden.
The construction of the Lalbagh Botanical Garden was then taken over by his son Tipu Sultan who, by importing trees and plants of his own from distant countries, added to the beauty of the garden. The architecture of the garden was based on the sprawling Mughal gardens that were being established in the Mughal Empire, particularly at Sira-a a major Mughal outpost in South India and a small little.
Lalbagh Botanical Garden has situated 38.8 km from Bangalore’s Kempegowda International Airport. Bus routes that ferry between the two places are regular. You can also book a taxi or rent a car which, after a short 45-minute drive through Bangalore City, will take you to Lalbagh.
During winter, which lasts from November to March in Bangalore, the best time to visit the Lalbagh Botanical Gardens is. Although the gardens remain open throughout the year, during summer it can get pretty stuffy and humid.
