In the north-west part of Bangalore, Jayaprakash Narayan Biodiversity Park (JP park) is situated on an 85-acre site at Mathikere. The park has four lakes, lawns spread over 25 acres, and there you can find over 250 varieties of trees and shrubs all the time. Select plants that are tropical and aquatic, and a nursery. There is a center for nature, a plaza for exhibits, and an amphitheater. In the park, there’s a rock garden modeled after the one in Almatti.
It was opened in 2006 by the Chief Minister of Karnataka State, H.D. Kumaraswamy, and is popularly referred to as JP Park. A former chief minister, Ramakrishna Hegde, laid the foundation stone, but construction was delayed and it was more than a decade before the project was completed. The park was built at a cost of Rs. 9 crores by the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) and is Bangalore’s biggest park after Lalbagh and Cubbon Park.
There are three grooves in the park, called Pavithra Vana, with mini grooves called Nakshatra Vana, Rashi Vana, and Navagraha Vana. Each star in the zodiac constellation apparently has a specific plant/tree ascribed to it. There are plants in this park that subscribe to your Sun Symbol.
