Devanahalli Fort

Devanahalli Fort is one of India’s largest architectural forts and also one of the largest forts covering 20 acres. It draws many tourists from India and other countries due to its historic significance. It is situated near the birthplace of Tipu Sultan, also known as the Mysore Tiger. The fort is an ancient wonder of its nature, with many temples located within the fort and the graffiti of the battles fought here reflected through its walls.

In the fort, there are temples, some of which are dedicated to the local deities. Among them, Siddheswar Swami Temple, Chandramouleshwara Temple, and Raghavendra Swamy Temple are the most prominent. There was some slight damage done to the temples during the numerous battles fought in the fort. The temples have been restored over some time and are now the center of numerous visitors from India as well as other countries.

Much of the original fort built in 1501 is now damaged and all that remains now are the different reconstructions it had over a period of time. And its structure, the fort went through several changes as it was for over 2 centuries the battlefield. The new fort is the result of the modifications made by Hyder Ali and then by Tipu Sultan.

You can rent a taxi from the main town of Bangalore to Devanahalli Fort and drive along the highway between Bangalore and Hyderabad. Other than a taxi, you can also take your private car on the same highway route to the fort. From Kempe Gowda bus station, there are government buses that take you straight to the fort in about 40 minutes.

There is no entry fee. During the summer season, the best time to visit Devanahalli Fort is Since there are beautiful mango and tamarind plantations that are at their fullest in summer, one should visit the place in summer. From 7 am to 1 pm and 6 pm to 8 pm, the temples inside the fort are open to the public. While the fort is open to tourists 24 hours a day, it is advisable to visit it during the day. As it is only possible to appreciate the ruins of the numerous temples and the abandoned fort during the daytime.
