Cubbon Park, Bangalore

Cubbon Park is a scenic tourist attraction in the IT town of Bangalore, an oasis of green amid a buzzing urban landscape. The park with a flourishing ecosystem of more than 6,000 trees is appropriately known as the city’s lungs.’ In addition to being home to multitudes of vibrant flora and birdlife, Cubbon Park is also home to a handful of the most attractive structures in the region, including the Attara Kacheri, Seshadri Iyer Memorial Hall, and the Great Archaeological Museum of the State.

Originally, Cubbon Park was spread over 100 acres, which was expanded to 300 acres later. Cubbon Park, first founded by Sri John Meade (acting Commissioner of Mysore) in the year 1870, has a long history. This park was conceived in honor of Sri John Meade by Major General Richard Sankey (Chief Engineer of the State). The park was originally named “Meade’s Park” and later became known as Cubbon Park. It has been developed and expanded in several ways since the introduction of the park. Botanical resources, aquariums, toy train rides, a children’s park, tree-lined streets, walking and jogging roads, food stalls, sculptures of famous figures, and historical buildings and monuments are the best attractions.

The fall months and early winters are a perfect time to visit the park, from September to February. During this time, the temperatures remain mild and breezy, with no chance of rain. More birdlife, including migratory birds, can be found on the waterside in Cubbon Park during this period. On a visit to the park, the other windows may be fun.

The entrance fee is free for the park and Jawahar Bal Bhavan is INR 20 per person for adults and INR 10 for children. The park is open from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Mondays and second Tuesdays are closed.

Located in the heart of the city, Cubbon Park is accessible from M.G. Lane, Kasturba Road, Ambedkar Veedhi, and Hudson Circle. Quite close to the State Central Library lies the park. By renting a cab or riding on the KSRTC bus that flies from every point in the city, you can easily reach the park. If you choose to use the Bangalore Metro, you can get to the Cubbon Park Metro Station, which is about 100 meters away from the park itself.

You will find ample parking space at the four major parking lots near the park, such as on the Queens Roadside, from Balbhavan to the high court complex, if you intend to visit this destination by your own car.
