Currently, when the country is undergoing a grim situation as people are battling against the Covid-19 pandemic, vaccination becomes our only ray of hope. Getting jabbed helps to boost the immunity system against Covid-19 which has taken the lives of many. However, it should be kept in mind that getting side effects due to the vaccines are normal. This only indicates that the vaccine does is building antibodies in your body. This is not a cause for worry as the side effects go within three to four days. Here are the common symptoms which you will experience after getting the Covid-19 vaccine.
Fever and chills
This is common after the vaccination shot. You may experience a rise in body temperature. It may go to 100 F and may persist for two to three days after getting jabbed.
Fatigue
You may experience weakness or lethargy after getting inoculated and this will last up to two days. Therefore, it is important that you keep yourself hydrated, eat healthy and rest properly.
Headache
The Covid vaccine contains antigens of the virus that aids the body to build antibodies against the coronavirus. Headache is a common symptom that is often mistaken to be that of Covid-19.
Nausea
You may also get nausea along with fever, chills and fatigue. The tendency to vomit is higher but, it will go away within a short time.
Joint pain
The other side effects of the vaccine are body aches and joint pain. You may also experience stiffness and swelling where you got jabbed. However, joint pain is mostly seen in those above 50 years of age.
Swelling in arms
After you got the vaccine shot, you may also have redness and swelling in that area of your arm. But, this goes away after a short time. Moving your arms a little may help to get relief.
How to overcome the symptoms?
You may take advice from your doctor if you are suffering from unmanageable pain and if it is affecting your daily tasks. Doctors may prescribe you over-the-counter medicines like ibuprofen, acetaminophen, aspirin or antihistamines. But, you should not self-prescribe at any cost! To relieve the pain, you can apply a clean, cool or wet cloth on the area of your arm where you got jabbed. You can also perform some exercises. You should drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated so that you can bring the temperature down.
Experiencing these symptoms after getting the vaccination shot is very normal. It may take two to three days to go away. However, if the redness and swelling persist for long and gets worse, consult your doctor. Getting vaccinated is the most important thing to do at this crucial time. It is the best way to protect yourself and those around you. Also, remember to wear masks and follow the other Covid protocols even after getting the shot.
