Bengaluru: Private schools in the city offer to pay for the vaccination of all their teachers and other staff. Schools have appealed to the government to consider their staff as frontline workers and prioritise them in the vaccination drive. They have taken the charge of covering the cost of doses as the government has not taken a decision yet.
Jyothis Mathew, head of Treamis World School said, “Covid-19 has had a devastating effect on students and teachers. The government should consider teachers as frontline workers. Ideally, they should have been given priority vaccination. We will take care of the expense to get our teachers and other employees vaccinated when they become eligible for the jab as per the norms.”
Nooraine Fazal, founder of Inventure Academy opines that educators are the unsung heroes of the pandemic and contributing to their vaccination is a great way to show gratitude for their compassion and adaptability. She added that as it is difficult to get all children and teachers back on campus soon, the government should prioritise vaccination for teachers.
Schools are also extending their support to the non-teaching staff.
Orchids- The International School has assured that it will pay for the staffers if they wish to get vaccinated. They said, “While there is strong evidence to suggest that vaccination is the best way to protect oneself from Covid-19, Orchids International will let staff members decide if they wish to be vaccinated.” The school also added that it would cover up the entire cost for its 4,000 employees.
Several schools have started to send their teachers for vaccination. Savita Gopi, Principal of Silver Doring International School, Hesarghatta, said, “Twelve teachers from our school have taken the first dose.”
