Given the widespread economic hardship that followed the lockdown last year, as well as the subsequent wave of infections, any shutdown is likely to be the last resort. There are no simple decisions with hospital beds filling up and thousands of new cases being identified every day.
With 1,03,558 new infections, coronavirus cases in India reached a new daily high for the 26th day in a row, marking the highest daily total since the pandemic began.
