Karnataka’s IT capital on Wednesday stands alongside nine Maharashtra districts with the highest active Covid-19 cases.
The Centre flagged Pune is also the worst-affected city, for having a relatively high number of active cases in terms of population, with 43,590 cases. Bengaluru is the seventh place with 10,766 cases in the country.
According to Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan, active cases account for around 3% of the overall tally and are concentrated in Maharashtra’s nine districts and Bengaluru Urban. On Wednesday, 2,298 cases were registered in Karnataka, with 1,398 from Bengaluru. The state’s daily spike was third-biggest, behind Maharashtra’s 31,855 and Kerala’s 2,456.
Nagpur, Mumbai, Thane, Nashik, Aurangabad, Nanded, Jalgaon, and Akola are the other district 1st in the top ten. Punjab, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh, in addition to Maharashtra, also received the ministry’s attention. The number of new cases in Punjab is unusually high in comparison to the population.
On Saturday, the health ministry will conduct a meeting with these districts and state governments. In light of upcoming festivals that could lead to super spreading events, the ministry has also written to states and UTs urging them to take strict steps and use their discretion to enforce local restrictions.
In the wake of the resurgence, the government called for testing, Covid-appropriate conduct, and vaccination. according to Bhushan, the slow speed of vaccinations in Chandigarh and Punjab was worsened by the growing cases.
