Bengaluru: On Friday evening, heavy rains accompanied by thunder and lightning struck in parts of Bengaluru which left low lying roads and houses flooded.
Residents in SGN layout, Vinobha Nagar and Sudhama Nagar were seen removing water for their houses and also, drains started overflowing.
“For the last five years, residents in this area have been facing waterlogging during the rains as the drains are not connected and the water doesn’t flow properly”, said Selva, a resident from SGN layout.
He stated that over 25 houses in his area are flooded due to last evening’s heavy rain.
He said, “We have complained to local MLA Uday B Garudachar since there is no elected corporator and he has already visited the area thrice and directed officials. However, nothing has changed.”
JP Nagar, AMCO layout, Yogesh Nagar, Hebbal and other areas also had similar scenes. Over four crossroads were flooded and water entered several households.
According to BBMP officials, the Sarakki rain gauge which is managed by KSNDMC recorded 62.5mm of rainfall in just half an hour on Friday evening.
Mysuru road and roads in the Kengeri area were also flooded which disrupted the movement of vehicles.
