Bengaluru: In the past three days, ninety-nine ventilators have arrived from Singapore and Sweden at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA). As hospitals need them urgently, custom officers cleared them on priority.
The central government has spared medical products imported for the treatment of Covid-19 from 7.5 per cent customs duty and 3 per cent health tax. A customs officer said that a consignment of 54 high-end ventilators with Rs 3 crore arrived in Bengaluru from Singapore on Saturday. It was cleared within 24 hours.
A batch of 45 portable ventilators worth over Rs 35 lakh arrived from Sweden on Monday and it was cleared the same day. More equipments are expected to arrive in the upcoming days.
