In the cabinet meeting held on April 26, the Karnataka government has announced a 14-days lockdown from Tuesday 9 pm till May 10. However, essential services will be permitted between 6 am and 10 am. Construction, manufacturing and agricultural sectors will be operational. The public transport will remain shut.
Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa said, “Covid curfew will be implemented in the state from 9 pm tomorrow onwards for the next 14 days. Essential services are allowed between 6-10 am and after 10 am shops will remain closed. Shops dealing with construction, manufacturing and agricultural sectors are allowed to remain open. Public transport will not operate.”
Cabinet resolved to write to the state election commission to postpone all upcoming polls for at least three months. Also, the government shall permit home delivery of alcohol.
The announcement comes after the state reported the highest number of cases in a day with 34,804 cases and 134 deaths on Sunday. The caseload reached 13.49 lakh while the death toll reached 14,426 on Sunday.
