Despite a recent circular from the Airport Authority of India (AAI) requesting airport operators to ensure proper implementation of the Covid-19 protocol in the wake of an unprecedented increase in Coronavirus cases in India, passengers say that the Bengaluru International Airport has failed to adopt the various Covid protocols or build knowledge.
Dr. Pavan Patil of Gadag, a member of the Karnataka Medical Council (KMC), was surprised to see passengers not observing social distancing and not wearing masks inside the airport premises on Monday morning.
During the second wave, Dr. Pavan Patil said, I was surprised to see how negligent the passengers and the airport authorities were in implementing the Covid-19 protocols. There is no social distancing; eatery points are open, and as a result, people would undoubtedly open their masks in a closed setting, increasing the number of cases.
The Bengaluru airport authority and officials must raise passenger awareness of the Covid-19 protocols. Despite the fact that the airport authorities have posted signs urging passengers to maintain social distance and wear masks, no one is screening passengers or telling them to do so.
According to a spokesperson for Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), the airport authority has formed a dedicated team of airport officials at the Terminal who will concentrate on ensuring that passengers wear masks properly. Passengers have been cooperative so far, but if passengers refuse to wear masks, BIAL will collaborate with airlines and the relevant government security agencies to address the situation.
We will continue to work closely with government agencies to ensure that Covid-19 safety standards are followed by travelers and tourists. People who do not wear a mask in public places will be fined by the state police and health departments. BIAL will continue to emphasize the importance of adhering to Covid-19 safety standards, said the spokesperson.
